11 Howard’s guiding principle is conscious hospitality. What does conscious hospitality mean? It means that we approach each aspect of the hotel—from design to location to amenities and cleanliness – with awareness, purpose, and thoughtful consideration.  In response to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, 11 Howard has updated certain protocols.  Please see below for a list of our policies:

General Standards.

11 Howard has and will continue to comply with all New York City, New York State, and Federal regulations.  The WHO and CDC guidelines are closely monitored to ensure that 11 Howard is compliant, even in times of new information.

Guest Standards.

Arrival & In-House Experience.
Guests will receive a disinfected key and proceed to their room.  One party or 4 people at one time are allowed in each elevator.  Guests will arrive to a completely disinfected guest room; some decorative items in the guest rooms have been removed to reduce the number of shared surfaces between guests.
Guests may notice that some hotel amenities are temporarily suspended, including our gym, Higher Dose and Just Ageless.  These amenities will remain suspended in accordance with NYC guidelines until they can reopen safely.
Guests who exhibit clear symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, cough, shortness of breath, etc.) will be asked by management to promptly obtain a test and to self-quarantine until shown to be safe.

Disinfection & Cleanliness Standards.

All products used by the 11 Howard team are approved by the EPA as cleaning and disinfecting agents that kill the COVID-19 virus.  

Public Areas.
Public areas will be cleaned more often throughout the day.  An increased focus will remain on high contact surfaces and higher traffic areas.  Additionally, guests of 11 Howard will notice new hand sanitizing stations in all public areas, especially areas of high traffic, and sanitation wipes will be available for guest use.  New signage promoting social distancing and hand hygiene will serve as guest reminders in the public areas.
Guests may also notice a new look – The Library has been rearranged to allow for increased spacing between tables, creating a safer environment.  Additionally, some decorative items in the public areas have been removed to reduce the number of shared surfaces between guests.

Guest Rooms.
Guest who prefer to have their room disinfected daily can receive daily service.  Guest who wish to forgo service during their stay have the option of placing a Do Not Disturb sign on the door.  Guest rooms hallways are disinfected daily with increased focus on door knobs and elevator call buttons.

Team Standards.

Uniform.
The 11 Howard team has a new look!  Face coverings are now part of the 11 Howard uniforms for all team members.  11 Howard also provides, trains, and retrains all employees on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and correct practices of donning and doffing PPE.

Wellness Checks.
Each day, 11 Howard team members have a “Wellness Check” – chats about COVID-19 symptoms, possible signs of infection and each employee will have a temperature screening.  These “Wellness Checks” serve as a safety protocol as well as continued education about the symptoms of COVID-19 and strategies to control the spread of pathogens. 

Training & Safe Practices.
11 Howard team members receive regular training – including, but not limited to, the below topics:

Proper donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
COVID-19 Symptoms, Contact Tracing Steps, and Quarantine and Isolation Requirements
Factors related to the spread of COVID-19 and other pathogens
Proper Handwashing and Social Distancing techniques

Social distancing and handwashing guideline signage is posted in the back of the house to serve as constant reminders to our teams about safety standards.  Modifications have been made to the day-to-day practices of the teams to reduce the number of employees in one space at any given time.

Contact Tracing.
Every day, each team member will note which guests and employees they have had contact with via a contact tracing worksheet.  If a guest or employee has tested positive or is exhibiting clear symptoms of COVID-19, the contact tracing worksheets will provide information to notify others at risk in a timely manner.

Guest and Employee Notification.

Any employee or guest who has come in contact with a COVID-19 positive individual will be notified in a timely manner, subject to HIPPA and similar laws.  

Additional Standards.

As 11 Howard navigates these complicated times, certain amenities or services may be temporarily unavailable during your stay.  If you have any specific questions, we highly recommend contacting the hotel prior to arrival.  11 Howard will continue to update its guest and team experience to provide the safest and cleanest environment possible.
